Components are complex Movie Clips with parameters that you define during the authoring process. They are essentially a container, holding many assets that work together to add enhanced interactivity, productivity, or effects to your movies. You can use components to control your movie, such as moving from one frame to another, or to perform more complex tasks, such as sending data to and from a server.
You can download additional components from Macromedia and third-party developers to add to those already bundled with Flash 8, though many of the most useful and regularly used elements, such as buttons, combo boxes, and lists, are already included with the program. We look at many of the components found in the User Interface components set in this chapter.
