System Requirements

The samples in this book require Access 2003 from the Office 2003 suite. All samples were tested on a computer with the Windows XP Professional operating system. To run samples from chapters with content on SQL Server (Chapters 11–13), you need a copy of SQL Server 2000. In most cases, you will be able to use the MSDE 2000 version that ships with Office 2003. The sample materials for these chapters include databases that you can attach to your SQL Server instance. Those using MSDE 2000 will be unable to run a few samples that rely on the pubs database, as that database does not ship with MSDE 2000. However, if you obtain Microsoft Visual Studio Tools for Office, you also get a version of SQL Server that includes the sample pubs database. Chapter 14 requires Microsoft FrontPage 2003 and an IIS for Windows 2000 or Windows XP. FrontPage 2003 is available as a standalone component; it is not a part of any Office 2003 suite. IIS is a Web server available as an accessory that you can install on any computer running Windows XP Professional, Windows Server 2003, or any version of Windows 2000.
