data format

A predesigned layout for the display of data in a field. You can select, for instance, the format in which dates and times are displayed.

data type

A property of a field that specifies the kind of data stored in that field.

database

A program, such as Access, used for entering, viewing, editing, and manipulating data.

Database template

A predesigned database that contains tables, reports, queries, and other database objects designed for specific purposes such as a contacts database.

database window

The window that appears when you open a database; this window lists all the available types of objects as well as commands for creating new objects.

datasheet

A tablelike grid of rows and columns used for entering data into a table.

Date/Time field

A field used for storing dates and times.

Design grid

The lower half of the Query Design window. You use this grid to enter the criteria for your query.
