The Case Study Status

Speaking from the perspective of the teams involved in the case study, this is the first time we will build diagrams to understand EAB Healthcare's business. Previously we learned some basic information about EAB Healthcare: what the company does, how some of the employees work, and what some of the main jobs and positions are. In this chapter, we begin to understand the details of the business and its processes. EAB Healthcare wants to handle its clinical records electronically, and we will use the UML to understand EAB's business processes specific to clinical records. The different types of UML diagrams allow us to understand how the business works and its processes as well as EAB's strengths and weaknesses. Modeling the business, rather than just reading documents, makes it easier to understand how process changes will affect the business. As we attempt to understand how the business is running, we will uncover ways to change the business and its systems to improve EAB Healthcare, making the company more profitable and providing better service for customers.
