Understanding the requirements early has given a great advantage in beginning the process of transformation from the logical analysis to the database-specific design models. Using the same logical design as the application developers makes work easier going forward as well. It is much easier to understand the object relational mappings, to ensure that the elements to be used in the database and application are defined once, and to guarantee that each element is the same, no matter who uses it. Understanding how the logical elements will map into the database will help the current project to proceed and speed up future projects as well. The job of the database designers was made easier by having a team with vast experience building the logical model. They built a design that was detailed and had the major functions already built in, for example, inheritance, generic types, normalization of classes, and more. The next step is to do the transformation from the logical model to the database design.
